Membership terms

West London Racing Centre (WLRC) — an unincorporated members’ club affiliated with the British Radio Car Association (BRCA).

1 · How these terms work

These terms apply to membership of WLRC. They operate alongside the WLRC constitution, published club rules, safety instructions, event conditions and applicable BRCA rules. If there is a conflict, the committee will identify which rule governs the particular issue, subject to applicable law.

2 · Eligibility

  • Membership is personal and may not be transferred.
  • Applicants must provide accurate and reasonably complete information and keep their contact details up to date.
  • Completing a member-data update form does not, by itself, create or renew membership unless WLRC expressly states that it does.
  • Where BRCA membership or another licence is required for an activity, the member is responsible for maintaining it and providing the correct number.
  • Junior membership requires the involvement and contact details of a parent or guardian.

3 · Period, fees and renewal

Membership periods, fees, concessions and payment arrangements are those published by WLRC for the relevant year. Membership normally begins when the application has been accepted and any applicable fee has been received. Fees are not automatically refundable after membership begins, but the committee may consider exceptional circumstances and must apply any statutory rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.

4 · Your responsibilities

  • Follow reasonable safety instructions, track rules, race-control decisions and authorised directions.
  • Behave respectfully towards members, visitors, volunteers, officials, neighbours and the public, including online.
  • Take reasonable care of club facilities, equipment and the environment.
  • Avoid conduct that is abusive, discriminatory, threatening, dangerous, dishonest or seriously damaging to the club or sport.
  • Raise concerns through the club’s proper procedure rather than harassment or public vilification.
  • Comply with applicable BRCA requirements when taking part in BRCA-affiliated activity.

5 · Safe participation

Radio-control car racing involves foreseeable risks. Members must use suitable equipment, comply with designated track and pit arrangements, and stop immediately when instructed. Participation may be refused or stopped where an authorised official reasonably considers that safety, safeguarding, insurance, facility protection or fair competition requires it. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

6 · Junior members

Parents and guardians remain responsible for appropriate supervision and for ensuring that WLRC has current emergency contact information. Junior members must be treated in accordance with WLRC’s Safeguarding policy. Club volunteers do not assume parental responsibility merely by helping at a race meeting or activity.

7 · Club communications

Members agree that WLRC may use their supplied email address and mobile number for necessary membership, governance, safety, event and club-operation messages. These are not permission for unrelated commercial marketing. Joining any WhatsApp group is optional and subject to WhatsApp’s own terms and the WLRC group rules. Important information will be made available through another reasonable channel.

8 · Personal information

WLRC handles personal information as described in its Privacy notice. Privacy is not based on a blanket consent clause in these terms. Where WLRC needs genuine optional consent—for example for a particular promotional use of an identifiable image—it will request it separately.

9 · Concerns and membership decisions

The committee may investigate alleged breaches of these terms, the constitution, safeguarding requirements or club rules. Except where immediate interim action is reasonably necessary for safety or safeguarding, the member should be told the substance of the concern and given a fair opportunity to respond. Outcomes may include advice, warning, conditions, temporary suspension or termination. Any review or appeal route in the constitution or applicable BRCA rules should be followed. Members may resign by notifying the Secretary.

10 · Changes and governing law

WLRC may make reasonable changes to these terms to reflect law, insurance, BRCA affiliation, facility requirements or club governance. Material changes should be notified to members. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales; mandatory consumer and statutory rights are unaffected.
